Cassony

The Holy Kingdom of Cassony (Casson French: L'Saint Royaume d'Chênagne; Polish: Święte Królestwo Kaszońskie), commonly known as Cassony (Casson French: Chênagne; Polish: Kaszonia), is a country in Eastern Nostria. It lies on the River Seine in the north and borders Greenhill to the west.

Toponymy

The name Cassony is an anglicised form of the late Latin Casnānia, from casnus meaning "oak". The name is likely in reference to the abundance of oak trees in the Casson plains. The French name Chênagne is a natural evolution of the Latin, though the modern pronunciation tends to be /ʃanɔm/ rather than the expected /ʃɛnaɲ/. The Polish name Kaszonia is borrowed from the Latin, possibly influenced by the English form.

History

Settlement

Cassony was first settled by Maria I, intending to create a bridging civilisation between the then-French-speaking cultures to the east and English and toki pona-speaking cultures to the west. Settlement initially took a long time as the first building project stagnated quickly after it began. Eventually, however, the project was restarted and in its place, slightly further from the coast than originally planned, the Palace of the Sun was built. This led to further building in Cassony and the founding of the Kingdom of Cassony, with Maria I as Queen.

Countess Conflict

Before the completion of the Palace of the Sun and the declaration of the monarchy, Maria I held the title of La Comtesse de Simbois in Simbois, which was a part of Chicken Island at the time. Chicken Island common law at the time forbade those with noble titles in Chicken Island from possessing foreign titles. Though there was a period of time in which Queen Kisinja I of Chicken Island was unaware, the ensuing crisis that arose when she was made aware came to be known as the Countess Conflict.

The eventual resolution of the crisis, after much deliberation and time passing, was to grant independence to Simbois with the title of Comtesse remaining as a fossilized title for a new de facto monarch.

Arrival of the Goths

Shortly after the completion of the Palace of the Sun, there was an influx of Goths in Cassony who came to reside in the southern part of the Casson plains, near the source of the River Seine. They soon established a church on land and a boat in the water. Though not active participants in French or Polish-speaking Casson culture, the Goths soon became a definitive part of South Cassony (Gothic: 𐍃𐌿𐌽𐌸𐍂𐌰𐍄𐌰 𐌺𐌰𐍃𐌽𐌰𐌻𐌰𐌽𐌳, romanized: Sunþrata Kasnaland) and are now considered a protected minority group under Casson Law.

Infrastructure

In July 2024, a new infrastructure project was conceived in order to improve travel connectivity between Cassony and elsewhere in Nostria, as well as within Cassony. This began with the building of the Maria Street Bridge to connect north-western Cassony with Meow Island, providing a quick link to northern ally Ballymena and beyond.

Later in August, a full-scale followup project was undertaken in Cassony to improve internal infrastructure. Before this point road connectivity within Cassony was scarce and mostly concentrated around the Palace of the Sun. After the completion of the project, all parts of Cassony became interconnected by road and a new international road was built to the west, The Greenhill Road, connecting Cassony to Greenhill.

Sanctification

With the Gothic church firmly established in Cassony and the Catholic church steadily growing with the introduction of the chaplaincy at the Palace of the Sun, Maria I changed the official name of the state to the Holy Kingdom of Cassony.
